Northumberland Empowering Communities Project - Invitation to Community and Voluntary sector organisations

1. Launch of the Northumberland Empowering Communities Project , Tuesday 5th June 2018 9.30am to 12pm, Morpeth Rugby Club
3. This event will launch the Northumberland Empowering Communities Project, which aims to use asset-based, community centred approaches to improving wellbeing and health in Northumberland. This follows wide stakeholder engagement within Northumberland and learning from programmes in other areas.
5. Northumberland County Council, in partnership with Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, is committed to supporting the employment of a Locality Coordinator in each of the five local area council areas (localities) until March 2021.
7. Whilst Northumbria Healthcare Trust will retain the responsibility for employing each Locality Coordinator, we are looking for a VCS/not for profit organisation in each locality to host a Locality Coordinator. Using participatory methods and focusing on “what is strong rather than what is wrong”, the Locality Coordinators will seek to map and mobilise the knowledge, skills and time of individuals and the resources of community groups (“assets”), link people to those assets, and increase the control people have over their lives. We would like the host organisation to support and co-deliver the asset mapping work and subsequent delivery with the Locality Coordinator and other partners.
9. The aims of the event are:
   • To introduce the Empowering Communities Project.
   • To share information about the process to apply to become a host organisation.
   • To seek your views on how to maximise the effectiveness of the project, and capture successes.
